Phuket, Thailand, 3 July 2017 - Marriott International's leading resorts in Phuket recently joined forces to host an event aimed at raising awareness about motorcycle safety among the island's schoolchildren.

Held at Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort, the event gathered 126 children from Baan Kata Elementary School to learn about road safety and the importance of wearing a helmet when traveling by motorcycle.

Figures show that fewer than seven per cent of Thai children wear helmets when riding on motorbikes with their parents. This means that every day 93 per cent of kids across Thailand are risking their lives while travelling to and from school.

In order to address this alarming statistic, Marriott's hotels in Phuket joined hands to organise the "Helmet Painting Campaign" - a CSR activity that will have a real impact in saving young lives. A total of 175 motorbike helmets were painted and provided to the schoolchildren and their teachers.

Marriott International hotels taking part in the initiative included Le Méridien Phuket Beach Resort, Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Nai Yang Beach, Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa, Phuket Marriott Resort & Spa, Merlin Beach, The Westin Siray Bay Resort & Spa, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa, The Naka Resort and JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa.
